ABOUT

GIB is hosting its 7th Annual Investment Summit with the aim of “Navigating Investment Risk”. It will focus on thought leadership and industry insights on what risks are prevalent and disrupting the investment market. The intention is to enable the audience to be more aware of the changing times, what potential risks and opportunities lie ahead and how investors should adapt in order to be better insulated from current market volatility, or even the potential to capitalize in the future on current Global and Local Economic Environments.

The future is always uncertain, especially in our current, particularly challenging economic environment. Consequently it is important to consider the ways in which the future could play out as there are many possible futures. Which future will occur is not predetermined by the past which is therefore not a reliable forecast. By defining risk and considering a comprehensive set of distinctive potential future outcomes or scenarios we can build an understanding of the future sources of risk and opportunity, thus successfully navigating risk.

This is important for investors and asset managers alike as un-rewarded risk may materially affect members’ retirement and investment planning. Current market volatility looks like it’s here to stay, so asset managers must consider ways to control risk and capitalize on gains, while still bracing for a potential global slow down.

We trust that at the Investment Summit, you will leave with a better understanding of how present risks may influence the future and what are the best courses of action to navigate investment risk.

The GIB Investment team lives by the philosophy of being thought leaders in a dynamic industry, yet staying true to traditional values.

The summit will provide a unique definition of risk by global insurance company Allianz and the appropriate responses to the prevailing macro-economic environmental risk from local insurance company, Momentum.

We are excited to share the latest views and describe how their portfolios are being positioned in the changing context by leading local asset managers, Coronation, Allan Gray, Fairtree, and Independent Securities and how these asset houses are adapting to the risks in the investment industry.

The keynote speaker, Cy Jacobs from 36ONE will participate on a panel of leading local hedge fund managers, Laurium and Fairtree Protea.

All this under the keen and watchful eye of Bruce Whitfield who will be the MC for the morning.
